Finals Weekend

Lodging

The University offers on-Grounds housing for guests attending Finals Weekend. Guests will stay in the new residence halls located in the Alderman Road Residence Area. These air-conditioned hall-style accommodations include shared common area and bathrooms (gender specific). Each guest will receive a linen packet containing one set of sheets, one pillow, one washcloth, and one towel. A complimentary continental breakfast is provided in the lobby of the residence halls for guests staying on grounds. Rooms are not equipped with hangers, iron or ironing board, hair dryers, or lamps (overhead lighting only).  Reservations must be made by the graduating student. A list of local hotels can also be found at the University's Places to Stay site.  Please note area hotels often fill very quickly. It is recommended guests make reservations as early as possible.
 

Travel

The city of Charlottesville is located in Central Virginia, just two hours south of Washington, D.C. and one hour northwest of Richmond, VA. Charlottesville has a regional airport, Amtrak rail service, and Greyhound bus service. UVA is easily accessible from Interstate 64, Route 29, and Route 250.

Guest Services

First Aid

The Emergency Medical Services treatment area, staffed jointly by the University of Virginia Health System Special Event Medical Management team and Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad personnel, will be located on McCormick Road in front of Peabody Hall during the ceremonies on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If assistance is needed, alert an usher, police officer, or bus driver.
 

On-Grounds Food Services

Food stands will be located throughout Grounds serving beverage and snacks on Finals Weekend. Light breakfast items (doughnuts, pastries, muffins, fruit juice, soda, bottled water, and coffee) will be offered for sale Saturday and Sunday mornings. Food stands will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch items will be available beginning mid-morning.

Friday, May 18

A food stand located on McCormick Road near Garrett Hall will be open from 2 to 5 p.m. serving beverages and snacks.

Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20

Food Stand Locations

  • west of the Rotunda near the Chapel (beverages only)
  • on McCormick Road between Patterson and Colonnade Alleys (ice cream & lemonade stand)
  • on McCormick Road near Garrett Hall
  • sidewalk between Thornton Hall and Chemical Engineering Research Building
  • on the east Range near Washington Hall (beverages only)

In addition to the food stands, the following locations will be open on Saturday and Sunday:

  • Newcomb Hall - 1819 Supply Convenience Store- 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Newcomb Hall - Pavilion XI Food Court - 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • University Bookstore - Einstein Bros. Bagels - 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
     

Information Booths

Information booths will be available around Grounds for guests that have questions or need assistance.  These booths will also have Finals Programs available for distribution.

Lost & Found

During Finals Weekend, lost and found items are turned into the staff working at the Newcomb Hall Information Desk.  It is located on the first floor of Newcomb Hall. Please call (434) 924-3601 or email odos@virginia.edu if you have questions regarding lost items. Hours of operation:

  • Friday, May 18: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 19 - Sunday, May 20: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Monday, May 21: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
     

Restrooms

Restrooms are available throughout Grounds during Finals Weekend.  Signs will be posted to indicate restroom locations near the Lawn.
