Governor Northam has amended VA Executive Order 72 to include a section on graduation ceremonies. The new guidance, which applies only to graduation ceremonies and not to any other events, permits up to 5,000 participants for outdoor sites and 500 for indoor venues, or 30% of a facility’s capacity, whichever is lower, in addition to many other regulations to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The new guidance has enabled UVA to offer modified in-person Final Exercises for graduates of the Class of 2020, in addition to the planned event in Summer 2022.
All graduating students from the Class of 2020 will have to opportunity to walk the Lawn and process to Scott Stadium, where an in-person Final Exercises ceremony will take place. Depending on the response, we may hold a second ceremony in order to adhere to capacity guidelines. The ceremony will be held rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, the ceremony may be delayed to a later time that day. More information will be added to the schedule below as it is confirmed.
