Finals Weekend

Lodging

For those looking for an affordable alternative to a hotel with no minimum stay requirement and a complimentary continental breakfast, the University offers convenient on-Grounds housing for guests attending Finals Weekend. Guests will stay in the new residence halls located in the Alderman Road Residence Area. These air-conditioned, hall-style accommodations include a shared common area and bathrooms (gender specific). Each guest will receive a linen packet containing a set of sheets, a bedspread, a pillow and pillow case, two bath towels, a washcloth, and a bath mat. Please note, rooms are not equipped with hangers, iron or ironing board, hair dryers, or bedside lamps (overhead lighting only). 

Reservations will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis and must be made online with a valid credit card. Reservations for Finals Weekend 2019 will be available starting in September 2018. Travel

The city of Charlottesville is located in Central Virginia, just two hours south of Washington, D.C. and one hour northwest of Richmond, VA. Charlottesville has a regional airport, Amtrak rail service, and Greyhound bus service. UVA is easily accessible from Interstate 64, Route 29, and Route 250.

Guest Services

First Aid

The Emergency Medical Services treatment area, staffed by the University of Virginia Health System Special Event Medical Management team, will be located on McCormick Road in front of Peabody Hall during the ceremonies on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If assistance is needed, alert an usher, police officer, or bus driver.
 

On-Grounds Food Services

Food stands will be located throughout Grounds serving beverage and snacks on Finals Weekend. Light breakfast items (doughnuts, pastries, muffins, fruit juice, soda, bottled water, and coffee) will be offered for sale Saturday and Sunday mornings. Food stands will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch items will be available beginning mid-morning.

Friday, May 17

A food stand located on McCormick Road near Garrett Hall will be open from 2 to 5 p.m. serving beverages and snacks.

Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19

Light breakfast items (doughnuts, pastries, muffins, fruit juice, soda, bottled water, and coffee) will be offered for sale during the mornings. Food stands will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch items will be available beginning mid-morning.

Food Stand Locations

  • west of the Rotunda near the Chapel (beverages only)
  • on McCormick Road between Patterson and Colonnade Alleys (ice cream & lemonade stand)
  • on McCormick Road near Garrett Hall
  • sidewalk between Thornton Hall and Chemical Engineering Research Building (beverages & snacks)
  • on the east Range near Washington Hall (beverages only)

In addition to the food stands, the following locations will be open on Saturday and Sunday:

  • Newcomb Hall - 1819 Supply Convenience Store- 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Newcomb Hall - Pavilion XI Food Court - 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • University Bookstore - Einstein Bros. Bagels - 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
     

Information Booths

Information booths will be available around Grounds for guests who have questions or need assistance.  These booths will also have Finals Programs available for distribution.

Lost & Found

During Finals Weekend, lost and found items are turned into the staff working at the Newcomb Hall Information Desk.  It is located on the first floor of Newcomb Hall. Please call (434) 924-3601 or email odos@virginia.edu if you have questions regarding lost items. Hours of operation:

  • Friday, May 17: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 18 - Sunday, May 19: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Monday, May 20: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
     

Restrooms

Restrooms are available throughout Grounds during Finals Weekend.  Signs will be posted to indicate restroom locations near the Lawn.
