Academic Regalia 

Complimentary regalia is available for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree candidates. With a valid photo ID, you can pick up your regalia from the UVA Bookstore in Spring 2025.

Regalia MUST be picked up by the graduate. It may not be picked up by a friend or family member. We are unable to ship regalia

Complimentary regalia does NOT need to be returned after the ceremony; it may be retained as keepsakes.

Finals Week: If you are unable to pick up your regalia during Grad Fest, you may pick it up at the following times: 

  • Wednesday, May 13 - Friday, May 15:  9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 16:  7 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 17:  7 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. 
  • Fourth Years graduating in Summer 2026 who are allowed to walk in May can pick up their regalia during Finals Week.

Renting Regalia

The timeframe for ordering a rental gown and/or hood is Monday, March 2 - Friday, March 27th

Rentals are available to all doctoral candidates. Doctoral gown rentals include a mortarboard and tassel. Hoods may also be rented separately. Tams are NOT AVAILABLE to rent. All orders placed after the deadline will not arrive before Finals Weekend.

Rental Pick Up: 

  • Monday, May 11 - Sunday, May 17:  9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Please provide a student ID or driver's license at time of pick up. 

Rental gowns and hoods MUST BE RETURNED to the UVA Bookstore. Mortarboards and tassels may be kept as souvenirs.

Rental Drop Off: 

  • Saturday, May 16:  12 p.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 17:  12 p.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Monday, May 18:  9 a.m. - 5 p.m.  

Individuals are responsible for the cost of unreturned regalia. A late fee will be charged for rental regalia not returned by 5 p.m. on Monday, May 18. 

 

Purchasing UVA Custom Regalia

The timeframe for purchasing custom regalia is by 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 9th.

Purchasing Options:

  • Academic Gown: Gowns are made of navy tropical wool with velvet chevrons on the sleeves, outlined in orange. Two navy velvet panels adorned with orange Rotundas are featured on the front of the gown. 
  • Academic Hood: Hoods contain a navy and orange satin interior lining. The color of the velvet outer lining is dictated by your specific degree or discipline. 
  • Tam: Tams are six-sided in navy blue velvet with a gold two-button tassel.
Darden, Law, and Doctor of Medicine

Students will be notified by their respective schools of the dates and times to pick up and return caps and gowns.
