Caps and Gowns

Academic Regalia 

Complimentary regalia is available for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree candidates. With a valid photo ID, you can pick up your regalia from the UVA Bookstore in Spring 2024. 

Complimentary regalia does NOT need to be returned after the ceremony; it may be retained as keepsakes.

Fourth Year

Regalia Pick Up 

4th Year Grad Fest: Monday, February 19 - Friday, February 23: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. 

Finals Week: If you are unable to pick up your regalia during Fourth-Year Week, you may pick it up at the following times: 

  • Wednesday, May 15 - Friday, May 17:  9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 18:  7 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 19:  7 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. 

 

Masters

Regalia Pick Up 

Grad Week:

  • Monday, February 26 - Friday, March 1: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.  

Finals Week:

Doctoral

Renting Regalia

The timeframe for ordering a rental gown and/or hood is Monday, March 4 - Friday, March 29th

he timeframe for ordering a rental gown and All orders placed after the deadline will not arrive before Finals Weekend. Custom regalia will be shipped to the graduate's home. 

Rental Pick Up: 

  • Monday, May 13 - Sunday, May 19:  9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Please provide a student ID or driver's license at time of pick up. 

Rental gowns and hoods MUST BE RETURNED to the UVA Bookstore. Mortarboards and tassels may be kept as souvenirs.

Rental Drop Off: 

  • Saturday, May 18:  12 p.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 19:  12 p.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Monday, May 20:  9 a.m. - 5 p.m.  

Individuals are responsible for the cost of unreturned regalia. A late fee will be charged for rental regalia not returned by 5 p.m. on Monday, May 20. 

 

Purchasing UVA Custom Regalia

The timeframe for purchasing custom regalia is 5 p.m. on Friday, March 1st

Purchasing Options:

  • Academic Gown: Gowns are navy with velvet chevrons on the sleeves, outlined in orange. Two velvet panels adorned with orange Rotundas are featured on the front of the gown. 
  • Academic Hood: Hoods contain a navy and orange satin interior lining. The color of the velvet outer lining is dictated by your specific degree or discipline. 
  • Tam: Tams are navy blue velvet with a two button tassel.
Darden, Law, and Doctor of Medicine

Students will be notified by their respective schools of the dates and times to pick up and return caps and gowns.
